Creeks are still dry

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Although we’ve had some rain recently, we’re still nowhere near where we should be in terms of water in the creeks. This creek is usually running enough to keep the grass from growing like it is now. As you can see, it’s dry.

I hate to say it, but we’re going to need a lot of snow to make up for this if we don’t get some real rain soon.

Pita Likes Cotton

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

Pita decided since I didn’t have any animal crackers to give him while I was taking pictures that he would eat my shirt instead. That is my shirt in his mouth.

Angel

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

Angel has been with us for about a year. She took a long time to mix in with the others. Now she plays and butts heads with all of them. She can still be found off by herself browsing without a care in the world.

Turkeys in the Pasture

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

We’ve had these visitors on a daily basis pecking at leftover grain in the steer pasture. There’s about a dozen total.

What a sight

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Yesterday morning as I was driving down my road to go to work I saw something that made me wish I’d had my camera in the car. A doe and her twin fawns were standing in our hay field surrounded by turkeys and their poults. It was a very interesting sight. Today the deer were on our bank and the turkeys were in the pasture.

Oreo

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

We’ve had Oreo for quite awhile. Depending on her mood, she’ll sometimes let us give her head a rub.

Friday Ark Centennial Edition is up over at The Modulator.

Bulling

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

These 4 month old boys are doing what we call “bulling”. Even though they are young steers and not bulls, they practice being dominant by pushing each other with their heads. I think this one ended in a tie. :-)

Cotton Thistle

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

Thistle…ARGH

It’s everywhere in the pasture. Hubby brush hogs it down where he can, but can’t get to all of it. Fortunately it hasn’t hurt the cows so far. It can be nasty stuff!

It’s supper time for Ruby, daughter of Rose.
