Explain something to me

Written by tbirdonawire on November 5th, 2006

Yesterday for half the day I nursed a sick 5 week old kitten. It seemed that it was all in vain. The kitten had been happy and playful all morning until sometime in the afternoon it just got lathargic and was unable to make it to the litter box.

It got worse as the afternoon wore on. I used an eye dropper to feed it water and put maple syrup on it’s mouth to give it some nourishment. By evening I was just waiting for him to take his last breath. He couldn’t hold his head up and his breathing was very shallow. His eyes were glossy and nothing seemed to be working.

I laid next to him and stroked him waiting for him to take his last breath. I actually fell asleep because I was so emotionally exhausted because it was killing me to see him like this. I opened my eyes and he was still breathing so I continued to pet him. I momentarily took the blanket off him to check his breathing and the next thing I know this kitten gets up and walks over to Harley and starts to rub against him. 2 hours prior when he could stand, it was as if he was drunk and was wobbly. An hour earlier I was waiting for him to die. It was almost as if he had awakened from a coma.

This kitten is now running around the house playing as if nothing happened at all. I stayed with him all night to keep an eye on him and he would sleep and then get up and run around and play for awhile. I am absolutely baffled and absolutely delighted all at the same time.

Sometimes life doesn’t really suck, it just feels that way.

    Life is amazing sometimes.

I must admit, I was getting really worried as I read, and I had a huge wave of relief when reading that the kitten pulled through. Hurray for life!

Wow! Lucky kitty! I can understand the stress. For me, it was the most stressful 5 days in my life when I had to hand feed the newborn little blackie. But we weren’t that lucky. Little Blackie didnt make it. I guess fate just have everything planned and there is nothing we can do about it.

I’m so glad he’s OK! We had to nurse 4 kittens once when the momma died suddenly and it was touch and go so often. We lost one but managed to save 3. We still have one, almost 8 years later :)
