Thursday Thirteen #10
Written by tbirdonawire on October 5th, 2006Thirteen Household Tips:
1. Drippy Ice Cream Cones?
Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.
2. Perfect Pancakes
Use a turkey baster to “squeeze” your pancake batter onto the hot griddle and you’ll get perfectly shaped pancakes every time.
3. Fresh Potatoes
To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.
4. Perfect Hard-Boiled Eggs
To prevent eggshells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before hard-boiling.
5. Juiciest Lemons
To get the most juice out of fresh lemons, bring them to room temperature and roll them under your palm against the kitchen counter before squeezing.
6. A VERY clean skillet
To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stovetop.
7. NON-Stained Tupperware
Spray your Tupperware with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato based sauces and there won’t be any stains.
8. Pretty Cake that Won’t Stick
When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit ofthe dry cake mix instead and there won’t be any white mess on the outside of the cake.
9. Uh-Oh, Too Much Salt
If you accidentally over salt a dish while it’s still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant “fix me up,”.
10. Stay-Fresh Celery
Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.
11. Is your Egg Fresh
To determine whether an egg is fresh, immerse it in a pan of cool, salted water. If it sinks, it is fresh, but if it rises to the surface, throw it away.
12. Weird Cure for Headaches
Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.
13. Leftover Wine?
Don’t throw out all that leftover wine. Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.

I keep forgetting that miniature marshmellow tip, darn it. I usually just wrap an napkin around the bottom of the cone and eat fast. [grin]
What an awesome tip on #2! I’ll have to try that one.
All great tips, really. I do believe I’ll copy, paste, and then print this T13. Thanks. [smile]

Cool list! As the owner of theweekendchef.exit-23.net, I might try some of those and review them.
As a sufferer of chronic headaches and migraines, I’m going to definitely try the lime. ;)
